Max Team XL, part 1: How it all started

At the June MeetUp in Liberec, where we had a Prusa Original XL printer at our disposal, the first ideas on how to use this printer to its full potential were born. Among them was Jirka’s “crazy” idea: “How about trying to print our Max in 1:4 scale!” (note: twice the size of the original model).

Another idea that came up was “Let’s get our fans involved!” In our Facebook/mailing challenge, we asked you – the fans of 3D Sets – to give a little/big help with the new design. We created a PDF template that you could either print out and use crayons, paints or markers to give it a unique design, or you could edit the template digitally. PS: Creativity and feasibility 1:1.

What were the actual terms of the challenge?

1. Use a maximum of 5 colours of Prusament filament for the design.

2. Include the 3D Sets logo and the Prusa logo in the design.

3. Upload the designs to the FB post by 11 July 23:59 CEST or send the design via e-mail.

Out of all the suggestions, Jirka chose his favourite and decided to “bring it to life”. As a thank you for the time spent on the design, we sent a little surprise to the inboxes of all those who took part in the challenge.

Check out the “Jirka builds Max XL” series where he will explain the whole process of building the model and the pitfalls of printing. Follow his crazy journey, the ups and downs, and hopefully a successful conclusion.
